REQUEST : Maha-Bharata, Ramayana, Hindi, and Sanskrit
Hello all,
The best translations of the Maha-Bharata and the Ramayana I have are
translated by Rajagopalachari and are in excess of three-hundred pages
each; while the Maha-Bharata is very adequate, the Ramayana is definitely
insufficient.
I'd like better translations; do you all know of any that aren't too
heavy of commentary. (That are shorter than say, van Buitenen's seven
volume collection of just the Maha-Bharata - that's just the translated
text.)
I know that eventually, I'll have to learn Sanskrit and/or Hindi, which
brings up my next question. How translateable is Sanskrit into Hindi?
Can a person who can read Hindi also read Sanskrit?
