I contacted a local cut-rate printer, and I was able to mass-produce
some namakarana certificates (suitable for framing or photocopying).
While Hinduism Today suggests that the conversion ceremony cost about
$900, due to economies of scale, I'm willing to give you a Hindu name
and identity for the low, low cost of a mere $101.

Of course, because I did use a cut-rate printer, there were some minor
errors. They filled in the "new name" field accidentally, so all males
will receive new Hindu names of Avalokiteshwara, and all females will
be called Jyoti (named for Jyoti Sharma, the original Hindu babe of
Usenet, who is immortalized in her own group, alt.jyotish)

Luckily, not all of us are Jaldhar, and like I said earlier, you'll
have _guaranteed_ acceptance if you take this limited-time
opportunity. But act fast, because supplies are limited, and you'll
need the extra time to get your driver's license, etc., changed.

But in all seriousness, Jaldhar is correct - the question is so vague
as to be unanswerable. You might find acceptance within various
groups, but becoming a "general Hindu" is basically impossible.

Heck, even those of us who are Indian are often accused of not being
Hindu because we disagree with the new "Hindu right".
