Dear Jaldharji:
I am honored to have you, a senior among us, and also commend your efforts
to contain the 'junior aurangzeb(s)'. I imagine that I am in the
juniors' list, and that Sri Aurobindo is the 'Sanskrt-illiterate Bengali
clerk' in question.
It would be inappropriate for me to try to judge Sri Aurobindo's
competence in Sanskrit language. I think that the fact that He translated
a major part of the RigVeda, various upanishhads, the SBG etc. suggest
that He was competent. More important, I have not heard anyone suggest
his translations as inaccurate. It would greatly help if you would give
us a sample from Sri Aurobindo's sanskrit illiteracy and contrast it with
a literate translation.
With best regards,
Dhruba.
