Shinto is the ancient way of life in Japan, not exactly religion. Those
who believe in Shinto are also Budhist at the same time. almost all
Japanese are Budhists and Shinto, except a minute number of Catholics,
mainly in Nagasaki area. Shinto deities are different natural forces,
just like ancient Greek and Vedic religion. Different people have created
, just like in India, their own Shinto deity. There are god for
fishermen, god for rice farmers etc.
