There is another reason to be proud besides the theological one.
Historically, it is the more advanced cultures that engage in the
worship of idols (and the theology that you sight); cultures that
establish cosmopolitan lifestyles and build cities create idols because
they have permanent places to put them. Barbarians and nomads have a
much harder time and must carry around objects of any appreciable mass
if they create , and thus tend to have more abstract "containers" for
divinity. Barbarians tend to overturn idols because their own values
have no place for such things.
