"Youth in Action" At Stockton, CA
The cultural program organized and conducted by the "Youth of Stockton" -
the young boys and girls of Stockton, California on Saturday March 29th night
was exhilarating. These were children of parents from India, some of them were
from Fiji Island and, most of the second generation kids were born and grown in
the USA. The program had a little of everything to amuse the audience : music-
classical, devotional, instrumental and light; dance - classical and folk; poetry
The Coordinator of the program, Mr. Ratan Naidu, made an introductory speech,
outlining the need and objectives of the organization. Mr. Anish Prakash briefed
about the activities of the past & current years. Invocation was a group dance with
"Shaantaakaaram" hymn set to music. Anisha Chandra, Davina Singh, Fatima
Delmar, Monita Singh, Neera Chandra, Romita Prakash and Ronika Praksh
participated in it. The legendary story of Ganesha's birth was enacted next. Sri
Suresh Mangoli lead a group singing of the patriotic song "Apanaa dharati, apanaa
hindustaan.." The theme of Davina Singh's poem was how the youth of today could
aim at being an ideal human being. Three pieces of group dances reminiscing the
child-hood mischievous activities of the baby Krishna were superbly done by
Amisha Patel, Jagruti Birla, Kinnari Birla, Sushila Birla, Davina Singh, Fatima
Delmar, Romita Prakash, Romita Prakash and Ronika Prakash. Ronika Prakash
and Neera Chandra in their dialogue analyzed the state of affairs of the younger
generation of Indian origin here in the USA.
During the award ceremony, Attorney Mr. David Miller of San Francisco spoke
appreciating the quality of the program; He, Dr. Raina & Mr. Sahara Prakash
presented the awards to the participants.
While the child prodigy Sairon Naidu attracted the audience by his solo 'Teen Taal'
Tabala playing, the teacher Maestro of Tabala Sri Suresh Mangoli captivated the
audience by his own solo Tabala recital. As the finale of the program, Bhajan and
Ghazal singing by the invited guest Mr. Harjeet Singh accompanied by Mr. Amarjit
Singh on Tabala, which went beyond 11:30 in the night, was a real feast of melody,
romantic lyrics and rhythm - and made the whole program a memorable one.
