Spirituality is generally considered to be unconnected with normal life
and unnecessary as far as the material requirement is concerned. It is
supposed to deal with atma and parmatma which even if they really exist,
have no direct bearing on achievements. Spiritualism is a fig of
imagination and part of private life of a person, removed from his
economic and political activities.
Even if spiritualism is in the reign of imagination, you cannot claim
that your imagination does not guide and affect your secular activities.
All activities have their origin in imagination. Spiritualism
influences your way of thinking so does materialism. While materialism
isolates you from the world, spiritualism expands your self-image beyond
your physical being and integrates it with the environment.
Materialism makes you think that you are female, and your problems are
created by a society dominated by males.; that you are a labourer and
the capitalism is out to squeeze blood out of you; that you are weak
and helpless while the world is going to gobble you up. All your actions
are influenced by such fear if your awareness is confined to your
physical self.
Spiritualism is the holistic way of thinking and it liberates you from
meanness. You are not a woman, you are a member of family, a daughter, a
mother, a parent. You protect the family and it protects you. You are
not a labourer, you are a part of industry. If the industry prospers,
you will too gain in status financially as well as socially. Even if
you are helpless and weak, the world, as a repository of the Brahman, is
full of opportunities, inspiration and help to improve yourself you so
desire.
Spiritual way of thinking will change your attitude entirely and
establish friendly relationship with the world instead of one of
hostility as envisaged by materialism or secularism. This has been
proved by lives of many Hindu sages and sants.
