Actually there was a time when Muslim Sufis and Hindu mystics particpated
in a spiritual revival in India. There was bhaki movement in which both
were active. Although I am only remember R.M. Eaton's book The Sufis
of Bijapur (Princeton U. Press, 1978--see page 151), I'm sure somework has
done on the interaction between Hindu Mystics and the Muslim Sufis.

Also, some people, for their own reasons, prefer to emphasize the worst of
everything, even though Hindu-Muslim Interaction produced a marvelous
architecture, poetry, art.....

I am an African-American who was fortunate enough to visit India in 1977.
I hope to return someday. I was deeply moved by my experience there.
Although my MA is in Middle Eastern History South Asian History was my
minor.
