Support- a - Child Program

Currently 850 needy children are supported through the Support-a-Child program. The Children are primarily in the Vanvasi (jungle) areas of the country.

Where does the money go?

The money goes the organization in Bharat that is responsible for the welfare of that particular child. Since the program is administered by volunteers, 100% of your donation goes directly to the appropriate organization in India.

What is it used for?

Primarily it is used for the expenses required to educate the child. This can include books, hostel and food expenses. The organizations that run these educational institutions concentrate on overall development of the child. Mainly it’s the slow process of building self-esteem and confidence. Instructors give a good deal of individual attention to these students. Its not uncommon for these teachers to make visits to the child’s home as well.

In what states are these children supported?

Almost every state in the country. Here's a partial list.

Have you seen these Children?

Yes, I currently support two children in Gujarat. In January of 1998 I visited the school in Gujarat. I saw the same child that I was sponsoring. I was impressed with this work. Other volunteers from time to time take similar trips. The article on Nasik was a first hand report written by another volunteer.
