: The Hindu parents, in general, do not want their kids to get deep into Hinduism, because they are afraid they will become monks or Sadhus, and won't take care of them in the old age.

: What's your opinion on this ?

Response:

This kind of thinking is known as tamasic (Sanskrit: dull and stupid) thinking. I have myself studied Hindu religion, but that didn’t make me a monk or a Sadhu; nor did I give up my duties and responsibilities. Every student, who works hard in the school, does not become a valedictorian. Every man, who dives deep into the ocean, does not find pearls. Every Indian attorney, who went to South Africa and worked hard there, did not become Mahatma Gandhi.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna says, “Among thousands of human beings, scarcely one strives for perfection; and among (the thousands of) faithful strivers after perfection, scarcely one knows Me (God) in truth.” (BG 7.3)
