: : I'm looking for a good text, in English, that explores the many types of wedding ceremonies that exist in the Hindu tradition.
: : I'm having difficulty finding any real information that'll help, because I'm getting married soon, and I want to know the significance of the actions
: : and words that my mate and I will be performing.

: : Any help would be appreciated.

: All you can find in a text in English available in this country would be a chapter on wedding. My book, The Hindu Mind, also includes a chapter that provides overall understanding of the Hindu marriage ceremony. I have not seen any book available in this country that would provide the details of various sacraments and the meanings of the Sanskrit slokas (verses) that are used in a typical Hindu wedding ceremony. Off course, there are many books in India, but most of them are in Sanskrit/Hindi. If you would like to know the specific details of a Hindu wedding ceremony, you should contact a Hindu priest and obtain details from him. Any Hindu temple should have a priest who would be able to help you.
