: : : Why is it that the Color of the older pictures
: : : of the India GODS are Dark(Near Black),
: : : but pictures of the same GODS which are printed or
: : : painted after the 1930's to the present are
: : : lighter(Near pale)?

: : Response:
: : Colors have been used by Hindus from ancient times to illustrate the spiritual principles. For example, yellow symbolizes renunciation, red denotes activity, white denotes purity, and blue represents infinity.
: : Color photography was not available in India until the late thirties and that is why the colors of the older pictures of Hindu deities may be in black and white only.
