Is God forgiving?

I have been very interested in your page and especially this discussion forum. I do have some questions for you though. If we are sinners, by our own free will, what are we to do about our sin. Does God forgive it? If not, why? And if we are sinners and God is all good how are we worthy of communicating with Him? Has he done anything to destroy evil, or our we on our own?
