: : Sometimes one wonders whether a misunderstanding of our ancient scriptures would breed a passive sort of character amongst us? Comments?

: Yes, it is possible. However, Hindu philosophy is time-tested solid philosophy of life that has undergone considerable scrutiny over a period of at least 10,000 years. Thus, any interpretation of Hindu scriptures that breeds passive character is certainly a wrong interpretation.
To witness Hindu passivity, look at what has happened to "yoga." Non-Hindus (and non-Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs) are setting themselves up in the business of "yoga." And, the "Hindus" just give-up and let this happen. Also, try and get many "Hindus" speak of their religion and to get involved in the welfare of their own religion and other Hindus, though they may be very open and helpful to their Christian friends.
