Maha Janmastami 95
On Saturday August 26, 1995 the Hindu Community will be
celebrating Maha Janmastami 95, to celebrate the auspicious birth
of Lord Krishna. There will be an all day festival at Krishna Lila
grounds (Cerritos Regional Park) in Cerritos from 2pm until 10pm.
We would like to get the youth of the community and specifically those
in your organization involved.
***The Coloring Contest and Essay Competition is open for the specified***
***age groups through out USA. ***
YOUTH PROGRAM:
Krishna Coloring Contest:
Color/Paint the picture of Lord Krishna that corresponds to your
age group.
Age groups:
1) 4 - 8
2) 9 - 12
Pictures will be judged on neatness, color combination, and realism.
Pictures should be completed and mailed no later than Aug 12, 1995.
( All Dealines have been extended from Aug 2nd to Aug 12th)
Essay competition:
Choose only one of the following topics:
1) Explain how Krishna's actions in the Mahabharat war were
consistent with morality (Dharma). The essay should include the following
incidents:
Telling Yudhishtira to lie about the death of Drona's son. Instructing
Arjuna to kill a weaponless Karna. Telling Bhima to hit Duryodhana below
the waist.
2) Compare and contrast the incarnations of Rama and Krishna.
Include an explanation of the incarnation's role on earth.
3) Explain the significance of Krishna's childhood pastimes. Why
are incidents such as Krishna stealing butter important.
Age group 11 - 18
Length should be between 2 - 4 pages.
Essays will be judged on neatness and content
Essay should be completed and mailed no later than Aug 12, 1995.
Super Quiz:
1) Each Bal-vihar or group of participants should send a team of
5 members.
2) The topic will be Krishna lila.
The competition will be held on August 26th--the day of the Maha Janmastami
festival. In preparation for the Super Quiz, good reading materials are:
The Srimad Bhagavatam 10th chapter, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Mahabharat.
If interested please turn in the entry form no later than Aug 12th 1995.
How to Participate:
Those interested in participating in this Gala event should send their
completed essay or colored picture to the address below no later than
Aug 12th, so that we may plan properly for this event. Please write your
name and age on the back of your essay or picture as well. Prizes will
be awarded to the top three entries in each category. Only one member of
each Super Quiz group need send the registration form.
