Cows are now safe!
Thank you all for the many, many kind replies in response to my
questions. I gather that the most fundamental reason for not eating
cows centers on the maximizing agricultural yield per area, with the
religious reasoning coming about due to tradition, etc.
I regret to inform y'all that I did buy a small package of hamburger
on the night of my post, but I don't think that I will again. I
whole-heartedly agree that consuming organisms higher on the food
chain (like cows) does not maximize the potential food production of
the land. So, I suppose I'll go vegetarian for a while.
