New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) The main brain behind the
sensational kidnapping of three British and an American
national has been identified as an educated Pakistani youth
based in London and his entire operation was backed by the
Pakistani intelligence, police said today.
Ahmed Omar Syed Shaikh, a 20-year old youth pursuing
Bachelor of arts course in the London school of Economics,
masterminded the entire operation which was backed by
Pakistani intelligence agencies, according to information
gathered during his interrogation.
Ahmed, who has so far identifying himself as Rohit Sharma,
Amir and Khalid on different occasions, is the son of a
clothes wholesaler in London, Syed Ahmed Shaikh, and a
resident of Deynecourt Gardens in Wanstead area of the British
capital, the senior superintendent of police of Ghaziabad
district of Uttar Pradesh, Mr Arvind Kumar Jain, told PTI over
phone.
Ahmed, a linguist knowning French, English, Urdu, Hindi and
Pushto, said he visited Croatia and was sent to Pakistan where
he spent a few months. He entered India on july 26 this year
and took his time to prepare for hatching the conspiracy.
The foreigners were kidnapped in September. The police
accidentally stumbled upon the incident and rescued the
American national, Bela Joseph Nuss, in Ghaziabad. Nuss gave
the police the lead to the abduction of the three British
nationals in Saharanpur, who were rescued after an encounter
on November one in which two policemen and a terrorist were killed.
