MImAmSa means exegesis.

A mImAmSaka is an exegete.

pUrva mImAmSa - exegesis of the karma kANDa of the Veda,
uttara mImAmSa - exegesis of the jnAna kANDa of the Veda.

Uttara mImAmSa is also known as Vedanta. Hence the term mImAmSaka is in
general applied only to the pUrva mImAmSaka. The uttara mImAmSaka is
commonly called a Vedantin.
