'War if India doesn't yield': Bhutto
Washington, Jan 4 (PTI) The Pakistan prime minister
Benazir Bhutto has said that a third war between Pakistan and
India may break out "if India continues to ignore the
Kashmiris' right to self-determination".
"The issue of Kashmir has previously caused two wars
(between India and Pakistan) and a third war may break out if
India continues to ignore the Kashmiris' right to
self-determination", premier Bhutto said in an interview
published in the recent issue of "Al-wasat", a London
publication.
Ms Bhutto said prime minister Narasimha Rao's offer of
free elections in Kashmir "lacks credibility. The boycott of
elections by the Kashmiris will prove that the Indian
government enjoys no support on the ground."
"Kashmir has never been part of India, and it has been a
disputed land since 1947", she repeated.
When asked why "Pakistan had failed to obtain
international support for its position on Kashmir, Ms Bhutto
said "even thouh the United Nations has issued resolutions
calling for granting the Kashmiris the right to
self-determination, the world community still abstains from
forcing India to implement these resolutions."
"In addition, India itself is not eager to reach a
solution. It still imposes unfair decisions, continues arrests
and killings, and reinforces its troops in the region. More
than 20,000 Kashmiris are still in Indian jails.", she told the magazine.
On the nuclear issue, Bhutto said gwe have repeatedly emphasized
that we, as Pakistanis and muslims, are proud of our ability to
manufacture a nuclear bomb, with the capabilities we have. "however we
have not yet manufactured nuclear weapons," she claimed.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's foreign minister Sardar Asif Ahmad
Ali told Islamabad radio that during the visit of U.S. defence
secretary Wiliam Perry, Pakistan will take up the issue of
the threat posed to its security by the Indian naval buildup.g
Ms Bhutto, while envisaging the possibility of a war
with India over Kashmir, complained through the London
publication that India's missiles can hit all major Pakistani cities.

from Ashok Tandon
London, Jan 6 (PTI) Pakistan army is reported to have
ordered about 50,000 reserve soldiers to be on maximum alert
following premier Benazir Bhutto's sabre rattling of 'a third
war' with India over Kashmir.
The army has put its category 'a' reservists, about
50,000 soldiers, on 48 hours' readiness, the London-based
'Jane's defence weekly reports in its latest issue released
today quoting 'sources' in Pakistan.
It seems that a daily barrage has been reintroduced
across the line of control and this escalation has been linked
to the forthcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the weekly
says in its column 'flash points.'
Ms Bhutto was quoted by a London publication 'Al Wasat'
as saying that 'a third war between India and Pakistan may
break out if India continues to ignore Kashmir's right of
