Participants in Interreligious dialogue needed

Dear alt.hindu subscribers,

If any of you is interested in taking part in a dialogue
between members of other religions, then you are invited
to do so on the Interrel mailing list.

For your convenience I post Bruce Schuman's message
about this list here. If you're interested you can contact
Bruce and/or subscribe to this list.

Peace

The Interreligious Dialogue Network

Last update: December 19, 1994

OVERVIEW OF INTERREL

PURPOSE: The purpose of INTERREL is to promote communication which will
foster DIALOGUE and COOPERATION among individuals, groups and institutions
of different religions.

RELIGION: Religion here is understood as "an explanation of the ultimate
meaning of life, and how to live accordingly, based on some notion of the
transcendent."

DIALOGUE: Dialogue here is understood as "a conversation with someone
from a different religion, the primary purpose of which is to learn from
the other, and change and grow accordingly."

The first partner of course cannot learn unless the second partner informs
and clarifies her/his understanding and practice. In this sense, dialogue
is instructive, but participants must recognize that they come to the
dialogue to learn, and the learning-teaching relationship is necessarily
mutual. This understanding of dialogue, and its guidelines, are further
spelled out in "The Dialogue Decalogue" by Leonard Swidler.

WHO: Participants of INTERREL first of all are scholars and teachers of
religion, and religious leaders with administrative, pastoral or related
responsibilities. It is also open to other persons with a serious interest
in religion. It is assumed that all are committed to dialogue as described
above.
