Perhaps you could explain how you understood his statement;
it seemed completely clear to me. Here is a nice verse that
might answer this question for you:
tasmac chastram pramanam te
karyakarya-vyavasthitau
jnatva sastra-vidhanoktam
karma kartum iharhati
"One should therefore understand what is to be
done, as well as what is forbidden, by the regulations of
authoritative sastra. Understanding the stated regulations
of the sastra, one should act accordingly."
