BJP Leader K.L. Sharma's Visit

Houston , , May 31 -- BJP Leader Mr. K.L. Sharma, General Secretary and
official spokesperson of BJP, visited Houston May 27 and 28. He was in
Houston to attend the Friends of India Society International, USA., meeting
on May 27th.
At a public meeting organized May 28th. he said that the BJP was fast
emerging as the number two party in India. He emphasized repeatedly that the
BJP was now very close to power, especially after the split in the Congress
party.
He claimed credit for the new policy of liberalization started by the
Congress government. He pointed out that ever since the Jan Sangh days, the
BJP was in favor of internal liberalization and dismantling of the
quota-permit system. However, he said his party did not favor globalization
in the consumer sector.
Referring to the social problems in India, he said that the BJP considered
ALL sections of the society as integral part of the nation building process.
The BJP shall strive to promote the welfare of all sections of the society
and will not favor one section over another.
He expanded on this concept to define the BJP's policy of true secularism.
He said that under BJP rule, there shall be equal treatment of all citizens
of India. There shall be no appeasement of any particular segment. He said
that it was the successive Congress governments' policy of psuedo-secularism
which created and encouraged a separatist mentality in Kashmir. This same
policy had created problems in other parts of the country as well he said.
Earlier, the Friends of India Society International (FISI), USA. met and
passed the following resolution on Kashmir:
FISI demanded that the Government of India start the process of resettling
Hindus in Kashmir immediately. It asked the GOI to create an atmosphere of
peace and tranquillity in different areas in the valley so that the Hindus
could settle with honor and security. Also, the conference demanded that all
necessary means of livelihood should be provided to such people.
The FISI resolved to work actively to present India's case on Kashmir to the
American media, public and the policy makers. The FISI also resolved to
interact with the US politicians on the day-today problems faced by the
Indian immigrant community in North America. FISI decided to launch a
membership campaign all over USA. and enroll Indian and American friends of
India. To take any part in the US. electoral process, the first ingredient
was to have a united front. In this context, FISI appealed to all friends
and sympathizers of India to join FISI and strengthen the Indian clout in US.
