| Request for Information on Lord Ayyappa and Ayyappa Temples |
|================================================================|
Lord Ayyappa also known as "Shastha" and "Harihara Buthran" is
worshipped by millions of people in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka
and elsewhere in India. As you may be aware, Lord Ayyappa is the
manifestation of the combined energy source of Lord Vishnu and Lord
Siva which became necessary to destroy an evil.
Sri. Siva-Vishnu Temple at Lanham, Maryland (Washington
Metropolitan) is adding an "Ayyappa Sannathi" within the temple and
the Kumbabhishekam is scheduled in the third week of July. The
"Ayyappa Sannathi" in Siva-Vishnu temple is a replica of the
"Sabarimalai" temple and is likely to follow the traditions
attributed to Sabarimalai. (I understand that Ayyappa Sannathi is
also planned as a part of Houstan Meenakshi Temple).
I am writing an article on Lord Ayyappa for the occasion. I
request you friends in the internet to share any information that
you may have on Lord Ayyappa as soon as possible. Specifically I
am interested in the following information:
(1) Sabarimalai Temple, its significance and festivals.
(2) Similar information on Ariyankavu & Achchankovil temples
(3) Other Ayyappa temples in Kerala, India and elsewhere.
(4) Why Ayyappa worship is mostly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka
(5) What are the rituals related to Ayyappa worship?
I believe that local customs and traditions have contributed
greatly to understand Hindu Heritage and Philosophy. With the
blessings of Lord Ayyappa, I hope to accomplish this project and
convey some new insights to our diversity. I assure you that I
will acknowledge your contribution appropriately in the article.
References and written materials (mailing address is given below)
are also welcome. I also intend to post that article in alt.hindu.
