As far as I know, that magazine folded due to extremely poor
circulation, and no longer exists. This may have been due to its
getting, in the later 80s, an extreme-left-wing editor in Pritish
Nandy, who emphasized sex and left-wing ideals to the point of
vulgarism and beyond, and later on, took it on himself to assail the
Sangh parivar in whatever way possible. Eventually, he bailed out, and
the new editor, whose name I don't remember, could do nothing to
reverse the slide. So Bennett, Coleman, and Co., the owners of the
magazine and of the rest of the Times group, closed it down -- it had
never been a profitable publication, really, since the stewardship of
Khushwant Singh, under whom it reached its highest circulation figures
sometime in the 70s.
There was some talk in late 1993 or thereabouts, of Nandy trying to
get the backing of some industrial houses, to buy out the Ill. Wkly
title and logo from Bennett, Coleman, and Co., and re-starting the
show, but I don't think it panned out -- but please do check. It's
quite possible my information is out of date. I would definitely like
to see the magazine up and running again, but not under Nandy, whose
brand of journalism is lewd, biased, and disgusting.
