Re: SUPREME LORD, GOD?
Earlier a question was asked by a Catholic reader of this group: if
there is only one God, then why are there so many differences in
people's conception of God?
If you look at the scriptures of the various religions of the world,
you will find that they express different but not necessarily
conflicting perspectives on God. All of them, for example, agree that
God is a person. But in Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition, the
specific qualities of that person are not fully elaborated.
In the Vedic religion, God as a person is fully described in all His
glory. This is especially the case in Srimad Bhagavatam, which is
recommended for study in this age of atheism, false gods, and false
religions. Other religions establish some secondary characteristics
of God, (i.e. - He is eternal, the all-father, omnipotent, omniscient,
omnipresent) but the Vedas are especially specific on His primariy
characterisitics.
For example, what does God look like? What kind of clothes does He
wear? What kinds of things does He like to do? How does He interact
with His devotees? What is His Kingdom like? What's His email-address? :)
Questions like these are best answered by the Vedic literature.
This is why it has been said that Vedanta is like post-graduate study
while other religions are like undergraduate study; you have to get
through the basics in order to go on to more advanced concepts. If
you are very much interested in God, then you have to get around to
advanced training eventually.
Hope this helps.
