Re: hinduism vs. homosexuality
Regarding the Hindu scriptural views on homosexuality:
The first and foremost injunction in the Bhagavad Gita is that all of us
are individual souls who are eternal. Thus, we are not our bodies. To
actually come to this realization, we must act in accordance to our true
nature i.e. spirit souls. Therefore, any action that is based on
gratifying the senses of this temporary body will drag us further into the
illusion that we are this body.
We have nothing against people relating to other people of the same gender
as long as the relationship is based on spiritual advancement and not on
sense gratification. Even male-female relations should not be based on
sense gratification but self-realization. The act of intercourse is to be
performed only for the procreation of children who will be raised in a God
conscious environment and it is not to be done otherwise i.e for sense
gratification. Illicit sex is strictly prohibited and sex is allowed
within marriage only for the procreation of God conscious children. These
basic facts have been watered down my many of the so-called Hindus and
very few actually practice these principals because the essence of
spiritual pleausre has been lost.
Homosexual or even heterosexual pleasure has no real place in the life of
the serious practitioner of self realization and God consciousness. This
will just be another impediment in ones spiritual life.
