* Sadhvi Ritumbhara remanded to police custody

Bagli (Dewas District), Apr 28 (PTI) The first class judicial
magistrate, Mr A K Bhatia here today remanded the VHP leader Sadhvi
Ritumbhara to judicial custody till May 10.
The VHP leader was arrested last tuesday for her +provocative
speech+ in Udaynagar village in dewas district.
She was not granted bail as she refused to pay the bail amount.
The magistrate agreed with the contention of the advocate general
of M P government that the Sadhvi had committed an offence under
section 153 of ipc and a case diary could be produced during the course
of the trial.
The Sadhvi was shifted to Indore jail as she complained of mental
and physical harassment at the Gwalior jail.
She was produced at the court amidst tight security and mounted
policemen had been deployed all over Bagli and neighbouring areas.
VHP supporters shouted slogans outside the court premises,
demanding the Sadhvi's release.
Briefing newsmen at Bhopal, the state home secretary, Mr Vijay
Singh, the additional director-general of police (intelligence), Mr A N
Pathak and the public relations secretary Mr S Laxminarayan said that
during the period of the judicial remand, the police would conduct
investigations into the case for the Sadhvi's arrest and added that in
case it was needed, further judicial remand would be sought.
He said the state government would have opposed any bail
application in case it was moved on behalf of the Sadhvi.
The court had accepted the state government plea that she should
be put under judicial remand which proved that her arrest was correct,
he added.
Mr Singh said the sadhvi who had till now been lodged in the
Gwalior central jail had pleaded that she be kept at the Dewas central
jail where she spent last night.
An application was also filed on behalf of the Sadhvi saying that
she was sick and should be examined medically at the M Y hospital of
Indore, he said.
Mr Laxminaryan said that Indore bench of the high court has
observed today that press reports saying that the Sadhvi's detention
was illegal were incorrect.
The court had only found that at the point of time there was no
justification for arresting her under section 151 and pointed out that
it had not said anything about arresting her under section 153-a of
the Indian penal code.
