Article from late Dr. Narayan Dutt Shrimali TOTALITY IN LIFE THROUGH A GURU ONLY Life in the real sense of the word signifies totality in all spheres, right from birth to the very end. In itself life has two aspects: one is the material and the other spiritual. Undeniably both are important features of life and a perfect balance between the two is what constitutes totality in it. But generally it is very difficult to maintain this fragile balance. How can this difficulty be overcome? First let's analyze both. Material aspects constitutes wealth, fame, comforts, spouse, children, friends, home, vehicles and all pleasures. Spiritual aspect comprises of Guru Dkishas, Sadhana, Meditation, awakening of the Kundalini and the Sahastraar and attaining totality and divinity. Thus one part of life comprises of pleasure (Bhog) and the other enlightenment (Yog). At one end is family life and diametrically opposite is Sanyas. A perfect balance between these two can be achieved through the Guru only. And only when this harmony is attained, life becomes fulfilled, becomes total and fully successful. Disharmony or lack of balance is what gives rise to the feeling of emptiness. We do not live life to the fullest, rather we keep dragging it. Burdened with tensions, sorrows, problems and obstacles we keep crawling somehow on the path, at the fag end of which nothing more than a miserable death awaits us. If not bickering with the spouse, it is disobedience of the children which makes life hell. Whatever the cause it leaves you with a forced smile plastered onto your face, while deep down you might be groaning with pain and misery. Is living joyfully, with an enlightened mind, awakened subtle powers and inextinguishable vital energy a mere dream? Is the so- called state of Samadhi, deep Meditation and a flight to Siddashram mere myths? No certainly not ! and I know that all these states can surely be attained, but only after you have given place to a Guru in you life. But in this endeavors all knowledge of science, all its technology and inventions would prove futile. Even holy texts, scriptures and massive books would be of no avail and even the sharpest of brains would fail here in these subtler realms, for the only key to this world is the Guru and the only school you need to attend is in the feet of an enlightened Master. Twadeeyam Vastu Govinda Tubhyamevm Samarpayet This body, this soul, ~ O Lord, belong to you and in your holy feet, I offer these to your service. This is the "true Mantra" and acting upon it you shall gain all all that is there on this earth worth the effort i.e. wealth, fame, respect, comforts, awakening of the Kundalini, divine enlightenment and even entry into Siddhashra. With all these wondful gifts awaiting for you in his holy feet, it is no wonder that the texts speak of the Guru thus- Twamev Mata Cha Pita Twamev, Twamev Bandhu Cha Sakha Twamev, Twamev Vidya Cha Dravinam Twamev, Twamev Sarva Mam Dev Dev. O Gurudev! You are my mother and my father, you are my friend and brother, you are my wealth and wisdom, you are the soul essence of my existence ! " Guropnished" states that without a Guru totality in life is next to impossible. Joy in life without a Guru is but an eyewash. and most fortune and blessed is one who has a Guru in his life. Two ways are there to attain this state. First, even when living far from the Guru one must always keep one's mind tuned to him and keep reciting the Guru Mantra mentally, even when working. Second, more fortunate are those who remain in the Guru's company, sharing his work, his worries, his tasks and propagate the message of the Master so as to help more and more people to benefit from the infinite knowledge of the divine Master. The value of Guru Diksha To obtain Diksha from Gurudev is a matter of great fortune indeed. Anyone can climb over hills, but to scale the Himalayas is a feat in itself. To get initiated by the hands of Gurudev and further to become a receiver of his benevolence is more an achievement that scaling the Himalayas or diving to the bottom of an ocean. In his company time passes by as if one is sailing in the boat of love on the waters of lake Mansarvar. And this moment of fusion with him is where all Sadhanas and Siddhis reside, where the divine conscience manifests and where totality is ! It is the greatest blessings to obtain Dikshas, knowledge of Sadhanas, Mantras and solutions to our problems from such an elevated Yogi, a great Sadguru and a problems from such an elevated Yogi, a great Sadguru and a possessor of all siddhis. To be thus blessed is the key to totality and fulfillment's in life. |
