Probably. This is because Hinduism and intellectualism (most
NRIs would call themselves intellectual) teach broad-mindedness
and tolerance. The BJP is strongly pro-Hindu, and I think
believes in not being so tolerant. Many Hindus are ashamed
of being Hindu, having been led into believing that it is a
wimpy religion. (Witness the willingness of Hindus to adopt
the Hindu vine clinging to the Islamic tree as a symbol of
unity. I don't think most Muslims would accept the reverse of a
Muslim vine around a solid Hindu tree).
Hence it is not politically correct to support the BJP.
Also, the BJP is nationalist, and NRIs supporting nationalism
and self-reliance in India might look like hypocrisy, like
Sikhs in Canada supporting Khalistan.
