Dear Harry Makertia:
All types of religious ideolgies can easily be sheltered under the
umbrella of Hinduism or, the Sanatana Dharma. True, there is caste
system related marriage inhibitions in society, but such social behavior
is picked up, not part of Scriptural laws. When one says that he/she belongs
to a brahmin/kshatriya etc. jati, one really is not saying anything about
him/herself, but saying that he/she is born (jata) in a family that
had/has at least one person who qualified to be a brahmin/kshatriya by varna.
Jati should not have any relevance other than the glorification of one's
ancestor(s), and as such, does not describe the person concerned.
Sadly, it does have clout, because it is ingrained in social traditions.
Hopefully , someday this blemish will be removed from Indian social scene.
I have not yet have read or heard of any Scriptural laws that says
NO to inter-religious marriages, and I do not really expect to find
such a law.
With best regards,
Dhruba.
