I just wanted to add that in marriages, the verses actually say that KAma
gives away the bride. I posted the verse in another thread, but here it
is again:
Om ka idam kasmA adAt
KAmah kAmAyAdAt
KAmo dAtA, kAmah pratigrahitA
KAmah samudramAbishat.
(Who gives away whom?
KAma is giving away to kAma.
KAma is donor, kAma is the reciever
(the bride and the groom are) entered in the ocean of kAma.)
The word kAma means the primeval reproductive energy. the message of the
verse is, in the interest of kAma, brides and grooms are married, and in
the marriage, kAma is the giver and kAma is the reciever of the spouses.
With best regards,
Dhruba.
