Recently I received some information about a god named Mithra, who
was worshipped in ancient times.  My information said Mithra was
originally worshipped in Persia, and later in Rome and other places
around the Mediterranean and Middle East.

I also seem to remember that there is a god named Mitra who is
mentioned in the Rig Veda, and I'm wondering if this is the same god.
Can anyone tell me anything about the Vedic Mitra?  Any stories
about him would be useful in determining if he is the same as the
Persian Mithra.  Thank you!
