There is much debate going on about the equality or otherwise of the
Hindu Trinity. Permit me to add my comments...
As with everything else Hindu, it appears to me that the understanding
of the nature of God also takes place at 3 levels.
Those who understand God at the Sattvic level become aware that there
is no longer any reason to debate or argue about the nature or name of
God.
Those whose understanding is at the Tamasic level leave such lofty
matters alone and focus upon living their lives.
A Vishnu Bahkta will be hard pressed to understand how Shiva can
posibly be considered the equal of Hari.
Similarly, a Shiva Bhakta will not be able to accept that Vishnu is
Maheshwara's equal.
All the debate in the world will not change their perceptions. Any
such change must come from within, where The Lord resides. And it can
begin to happen when the veil of Maya is cast aside.
Would it not make sense to leave such debate alone and learn to
accommodate one another? If anyone persists in spouting pious claims
to superiority, simply ignore him. You don't need to defend yourself
or your opinion. Grow above such egoistic desires.
Instead of seeking to better your neighbor, expend your energy to
better yourself.
Peace and blessings.
