In this regard, Mani Varadarajan has proposed an excellent
compromise plan that would meet most of the needs of the
proposed SRH reorganization without going to the divisive
trouble of a Call-for-Votes and so on. To date, though, the
current moderator has not responded to or even acknowledged
that compromise plan.
Here is the compromise proposed by Mani:
A few people have suggested that there be a compromise
in the soc.religion.hindu reorganization discussion.
Can we at least agree on the following topics?
I believe Dr. Raj Bhatnagar has already agreed that
the following concerns need to be met:
1. We need more moderators. The workload is too
much for one person to handle.
2. SRH needs to be moved to another machine. The
existing machine goes up and down far too much,
possibly losing posts and causing delays.
3. There is a need for an unmoderated group
talk.religion.hinduism so that unfiltered,
immediate debate can take place.
4. Given (3), there is no need for purely political
announcements in a moderated soc.religion.hindu*
group.
I am glad we can at least agree on these points. I propose
the following compromise plan:
1. Create talk.religion.hinduism, an unrestricted
forum in which to discuss Hinduism.
2. Have the four proposed moderators join Ajay
in moderating the new soc.religion.hindu*. This
would alleviate all problems in delay or machines
being down.
3. Amend SRH's charter to disallow purely political
articles, hortatory calls, and inflammatory posts.
The final arbiters, of course, shall be the five
moderators.
I believe we can all agree on these points.
To Ajay and Dr. Bhatnagar: can we have some acknowledgment
here on this compromise plan?
Thanks,
Mani
Yours,
Vijay
