Who is under illusion ?
I see that in the advaita FAQ, the very first topic has a
sentence like "advaita asserts that the real identity of
jIva, the individual self, is nothing other than brahman
itself." If such is the case, then is brahman not being
sullied by the imperfections of the jIva ?
If a case is made that from the paramArthic level, there is
no jIva, does it not lend itself to nihilistic philosophy,
the only difference being that in nihilism, after the jIva
is extinguished, there is nothing, whereas in advaita, there
is brahman.
What benefit does a jIva have in such a realization,
_if_ he is denied the capacity of an observer. If OTOH,
the jIva realises itself to be brahman, then the observer has
not changed (which implies that it has not extinguished),
which leads us to brahman being under illusion.
