Well, no. There are no direct equivalents of either `pramANa' or
`lakshaNa' in the English language. To have a reasonable definition
such as you attempted, one can do the following term-rewrites and
meld their translations:

yathArthaM pramANam.h |

The exact is pramaaNa. (The "exact" can either be exact
knowledge, or a source thereof.)

lakshyamAtravyApako dharmo lakshaNam.h |

A property restricted solely to the entity to be characterized,
is a characteristic.

Thus, "pramaaNa lakshaNa" would translate as "characteristic of the
exact."
