Dear Harryji, Giriji,
In reply to the question "if Vedas mentioned any on eating beef?" and the reply from Giri I would like
add somethings that I came to understand of Hinduism and the Vedas. Here it is:
There is no definite mention about beef or cows in the vedas especially in relation to eating. But there
are specific mentions of abstaining from meat itself and that would cover beef. In this respect, there are
also problems with regards to eating vegetables as they are living entities too. That is the reason why
the rishis and yogis eat the fruits (rice included) rather than the living plant itself. The is every reason for
vedas to talk about abstaining from meat. Scientifically, it has been proven that animal proteins do
inhibit thinking and concentration. Now a person who wants to dedicate himself to the full
concentration and thoughts on God would have to remove such inhibitions. On the other side, meat
has been know to create harmful desires in a person. Eg. shrimps have been known to increase the
sexual craving in a person.
Therefore, taking all into account, to be spiritually prepared a person must refrain from meat especially
deep meditation in God. The topic on Hell is totally void in Hinduism. There is no such thing. Hell exists
in reality and not spritually. God being merciful and everloving to his creation will not subscribe to such
an existance as he does not need to send anyone there. He could have easily destroyed the bad soul.
The hell that has been talked about in translations of vedas is only for those who have not understood
the philosophy of the Vedas. The truth is that hell is created by us as result of our own action (Karma)
and the same goes for heaven. If one makes eveyone happy one will automatically create a heaven for
himself. This is done by the soul (Atman).
I hope this sheds some light on the subject
