I believe the avoidance of beef is cultural more than religious. The
killing of a cow is a terrible act. The eating of its flesh is beneath
contempt.
But if a Hindu chooses to eat whatever kind of meat, I don't really
think he needs to avoid beef in particular. If he wants to avoid beef,
he should look into avoiding all kinds of meat.
This is only a personal opinion.
