Hinduism under attack in Bangladesh
This has appeared earlier in SCB. I have appended the

This is taken from the January 12 issue of the "Probasi" (a weekly
magazine published by Bangladeshi-Americans in New York ):

"Last Saturday a group of unidentified miscreants broke into the
`Jagannathbari Mandir' in the town of Feni late at night, and desecrated 30
half-finished images of the goddess Saraswati.
A case has been filed in the local police station about this incident.
It should be noted that the images were being constructed for the coming
Saraswati Puja.
In another related incident, a group of hoodlums broke into the `Gajiganj
Ashram' located one mile to the south of Feni, and severely beat up the
resident priest."
This is not the first time this has happened in Bangladesh. The historic
Ramna Kalibari in Dhaka, a twelfth century temple, was partially destroyed
by the Pakistani Army during the Liberation War in 1971. The Bangladesh
Government in 1972 bulldozed the remains of the temple and built a park
which is known today as the "Surawardy Udyan" (named after the communal
Muslim League politician who started the "Direct Action" riot in Calcutta
in 1946). Local hindus filed a case against the Bangladesh government to
halt the construction of the park, but so far, the court has been unable to
schedule a hearing!
We would like to draw the attention of the international community to the
plight of the Bangladeshi Hindu community. Please help us in whatever way
you can.
