I think you are right. There are, however, several lingas of
mythological and historical significance in Goa which is not
surprising given that Goa was at one point in its history a
major Shaivite stronghold (there is the legend (unsubstantiated, of
course) doing the rounds even today that Shankaracharya travelled
to the village of Kavalem (today the site of the famous ShantaDurga
temple) to obtain his dikhsha from Gaudapada).

There is a book cataloguing all the important lingas across India
with associated notes and photographs that I once saw in the U of Colorado
library. Does anyone remember its title, authors and other details?
