Re: ISKCON : help define these terms

In the article <4h8djc$kq2@babbage.ece.uc.edu>, of 2 Mar 1996 02:59:56 UTC, a

Indeed. While I am not interested in assailing the personal character of the
person who made this claim, I must note that it is indeed a bold one coming
from someone whose idea of philosophy is to deny his own existence. One has to
wonder how we can accept a statement of truth from someone for whom the whole
world is an illusion.

In order to say that someone's translation is absurd, the person who makes
such a statement implictly claims to have greater knowledge of the language to
be translated. Otherwise, he would have no basis to criticize.

Therefore, if this self-appointed Sanskrit expert would like to show some
spine and back up his words with evidence, I would be happy to take him to
task. If he wants, he can quote the specific verses from Prabhupada's Gita
where he objects to the translation, and I will answer him point for point. He
can even pick his favorite Gita-bhashya and we will compare translations and
see which one best brings out the message of the Gita.

Let's see if this fellow has a legitimate complaint, or if he is simply
blowing off steam.

p.s. For some reason, I seem to be missing many articles from this newsgroup.
This has happened many times in threads which I have participated in,
resulting in my inability to respond to articles which were responses to
earlier posts of mine. It would therefore be helpful to CC your message to me
to ensure that I see it.
