Religious conversion of Hindus to other faiths
In the recent times, many Hindus in India and elsewhere have been
converted to Islam. I was reading an article in India Today, where
it was reported that one Mr. Gyanprakash Ghosh after being married
to his wife for more than 16 years converted to Islam because he wanted
live with his lover. The incident happened in New Delhi. Mrs. Ghosh
upon returning from her visiting her parents in Calcutta found that
her husband had converted to Islam.
Mr. Ghosh belonged to the upper middle-class and hence was not a
financial destitute.
It seems that such is the situation where legalization of extra-marital
and adulterous behavior is obtained via Islam. (The reporters in the
India Today made this survey when trying to balance the pros and cons
of Article 44 of the Indian Constitution - Uniform Civil Code.)
What is most horrible is that Islam is used as a ready tool to tear
apart the fabric of the Hindu society. This is possible because the
local mullah does not object if you express a desire to embrace the
Mohammedan principles (Islam). He does not question your intentions
although he should do so ethically. Conversion to Islam is encouraged
by Islam and hence what is considered illegal in other societies/
religions is being held legal in Islam.
The rationale seems to be based on the fact that if the tortured persons
in other societies (like Mr. Ghosh who can say that he is "tortured", as
in a reformed Hindu society he cannot take lovers) are welcomed to join
the Islamic fold and fight against those original societies.
To stand up for our principles, and fight to retain our respect, we
Hindus must pressurize or fight to legalize the Uniform Civil Code.
We must have strong deterrents which can be used as guards to maintain
our Hindu identity.
