The word "constellation" refers to "a group of fixed stars." In
Jyotish, we use 27 Nakshatr(as), each being the 1/27th equal
segment of the sidereal zodiac. A Nakshatr is subdivided into
quarters called Pad(as) or Charan(s), yielding 108 parts of the
zodiac.
