I think Tripura Rahasya can be placed between Buddha and Shankara.
This is because Buddha is mentioned by name {atleast this is the case
in the translation by Saraswati, i don't have the sanskrit original} and
Shankara quotes from Tripura in his brahma suutra bhasya {as i mention
in another post}.
I received an e-mail asking who did Dattatreya preach to in Tripura
Rahasya. It was Parasurama {the same person who battled with Lord Rama}.

Thanks
