Abhinavagupta was one of the most important exponents of what has come to
be called Kashmir S'aivism. His major works include Tantraaloka and
Tantrasaara. I believe that he lived in the 11th century but would have to
check. He was never a temporal ruler. A good survey work on him is
_Abhinavagupta, an Historical and Philosophical Study_ by K. C. Pandey.
