How mantra's work!
I recently read a rather silly argument that 'mantras' do not have any
power and all that is just a hogwash. Well from personal experience I
can state that it is NOT hogwash.
But one might say 'mantra is just a bunch of words'. Yes they are a
bunch of words. Everything we say are bunch of words. Then howcome some
words make us feel good and nice, while others make us feel bad? The
reason is our interpretation of these words. We take things personally,
due to 'ego'. Now to the science behind the working of 'mantra'. The
human brain is made up of a number of small cells called neurons. There
neurons are interconnected. When w think certain neurons fire and form a
strong path. Each path represents a certain aspect of interpretation. A
very strong path is said to be memory. All perceptions/interpretations
and memory are based on which neurons fire and which ones don't.
We all know quite well that, if we read a book many times over, we
rememeber most of the key topics and can recall them. When we read the
book many times, we strengthen certain pathways in the brain and create
memory. When 'mantra' is chanted a number of times, it strengthens
certain pathways too. Great wise people have thru personal experience
found out this secret and have given us 'mantras' that strengthen the
pathways in the brain that will make us more spiritual. Certain
'mantras' give us powers, same explanation, the brain knows how to
control nature. All that we see if a perception and illusion, created by
our mind and this can quite easily be controlled.
gaYatri mantra is the most fundamental 'mantram'. It magnifies the
intellectual abilities of the person practicing it. Anyone that
practices this 'mantra' with firm faith and devotion does get the results
it has to offer. If we read a book with our mind on a beach, then we
will not remember anything from the book. If we chant a 'mantra' without
any conviction or faith and expect it to work then we will have to wait
for a long long time.
One might now ask, are there any 'bad' mantra. The answer is YES. The
entire practice of voodoo, witchcraft and blackmagic is based on these.
'mantra' in themselves are just a bunch of words, and they will give the
person reciting it the result it is meant to give. Fortunately for us
there are a number of good 'mantra' in the hindu scriptures that can be
recited after initiation from a qualified 'guru'. YES, this is very very
important. A 'guru' will thru his higher perceptions, judge the current
spiritual status of a person. Based on this the 'guru' will give the
disiple an appropriate mantra. Even 'OM' is a very powerful mantra and
shoudl only be reciting in large number after instructions from a 'guru'.
'mantra' are very powerful, and for most of them to work, it takes some
practice. The more concentrated one is when reciting, the more quicker
the result.
Some mantra and their results:
RUM Control over fire. (A person in Bangalore has done this)
OM Decreases ones material desires.
RAM Same as GOD RAM, increases 'sattva' guna.
gaYatri Increases 'sattva' guna and discriminating power.
There are numerious other mantra too. Hope this information helps.
