A great deal in science depends on the concept of measure.
There are measures that quantify length (meters etc..), there
are measures that quantify mass (Kg, etc..). Our understanding
of the physical world depends mostly on our sense organs that
we use to measure the world with.
Two things to note are:
1) Our senses are not omnipotent sensors i.e, they have their
limitations.
2) Our perception of time (linear time) is also limited due
to the capabilties of our brains.
Even the theoretical quantum physics people (Feynman, etc..) have
accepted the concept of infinity (beyond measure).
Krishna in the Gita says that our jiva-atma and Godhead (Paramatma)
does not have any measure (beyond measure of human senses). It
cannot be seen, felt and categorized like worldly objects.
As to whether God's existence can be proved (measured) would
depend on the reliability of our senses.
The idol in a
temple is a mere stone to a person who starts measuring the
deity with his senses. The idol is an embodiment of the
eternal Brahman for the person who measures it through the
eyes of wisdom.
One can ofcourse say that I believe only that which I
can measure directly or indirectly
with my senses (over confidence in the limited senses).
Point is the possibility of God's existence still exists and
just as it cannot be proved with the senses it cannot be
disproved either.
