...no subject...
Greetings all,
There has been a discussion going on for a short while concerning God and
rationally proving / disproving Its existance.
I was a Chistian activist / extremist for eight years ('84-'92). During the
late eighties I became interested in proving God's existantance through
rational thought. During the spring of 1990, I took an Intro to Philosophy
class - no good reason why or why not - and for it, wrote my own personnal
philosophy for a term paper.
Well, it should be taken for granted that the philosophy started out being
very similar to Thomas Acqunas and went through four decisive versions before
it was completed in 1992. (One the Acquinesque version was turned in.)
Conincidentally, I completed the philosophy two months before I made a
concious effort to not be a Christian any longer. Later that year, after
leaving Christianity, I became interested in mysticism which lead toward
meditation and yoga. The final version of the philosophy, I gained the
desire and the words to write in poetic format. Its enclosed and follows and
I've included a paragraph of explanation following each stanze of the
philosophy.
Bests wishes.

I receive qualities of various sort,
They are produced by sources and change;
This is how I knew they were,
And the fundamental knowledge.
I start by knowing nothing and realize that I am receiving
sensory preception. I realize that the sensory perception exists
because it changes (i.e. light to dark, hard to soft). I do not
necessary what produces those qualities because "sources of
qualities", which are generally refered to as objects.
One change is because of another is because of another,
And so on, until the "start of time".
One change causes another causes another,
And so on until the "end of time".
Need I elaborate further?
Changes occur during time,
And they happen within space.
That is how I knew they were,
But do not know if they always will be.
Because the qualities change, there must be a duration of
time for that change to occur - time exists. Or the qualities
/ sources may appear to change in position - space exists.
The qualities of the sources may effect each other and
my body -
I know that my body is there and that it encases me.
Effects upon the body produce a physical feeling which
I am given.
I then produce a thought which may effect they body which
may effect the qualities.
My body is merely another group of qualities - perceptions, if
you wish. Except that I can control my body with thought, unlike
"things" outside my body.
I can remember and compare this is how I learn,
But this depends on the body.
I can't remember before I had it.
And I'll forget everything when it rots.
The only exceptions are transmigration and illumination.
Those who seek to obey God die young -
Whoever It is.
They say those who disobey God die young, and it is true.
It is by doing neither that we live long.
Religious fanaticism results in suicides and mob murders. At
the time I romanced about being killed by a mob for preaching.
Those who live long have the suffering of long life.
Those who die young have mercy.
God is not just - I see only cruelty -
And It responds with apathy to the pleas from the
faithful and faithless.
Gottama said the same thing.
People want to live long,
Because death (usually) follows or causes suffering.
We know happiness through unhappiness,
And do not want suffering, although it is part of life.
Because of this we seek pleasure and control (of
qualities) and companionship.
But friends yield many obligations.
Don't we wish to do what we want?
But our desires yield greater obligations and suffering.
Self-denial, discipline, ritual, and routine
These yield good character.
But who doesn't want to do what they want?
And who does not want companionship and obligations?
I discovered two basic ironies in human character. People want
an easy path to wealth and influence. People also want to do
what they want, but want friends who, to a certain extent, make
you do what you don't want.
Through seeking companions, groups will form,
And give themselves a purpose.
Groups seek to be better than others of similar purpose.
And force their opinions upon others.
Another irony. Because of human's natural "social insecurity"
we want to form organizations (social, business, polical,
relgious, or otherwise). We also want our organization to
be the best organization possible (while naturally taking the
easiest route for this). For example, the old Communist Party
wanted to dominate the government. How did they do this, they
outlawed all other polical parties.
Did God not make us the way It wanted?
They nature of people is to form groups.
And the nature of groups is to dominate others.
Therefore God wants us to help each other subordinate
each other.
Yes, God wants us to dominate and subjugate (sp) each other.
Of all the virtues, there is on worth having: integrity.
And the foundation of integrity is truthfulness.
From truthfulness, reliability is yielded, for what is
said is what is done.
From reliability, loyalty is yielded, because the person
is reliably reliable.
