idea of Deity is important. Deity, as described in the SBG, is
'brahmano hi pratishhThA ahaM (the seat of brahman) 14.27'. This
seat is for either the avatAra or the brahma-bhuta to occupy. I
feel that the unique position of sUrya in the Vedas is because
sUrya is brahma-bhuta. God mentions him as his first student in
the SBG (imaM vivasvate yogaM proktavAnaM ahaM 4.1). The knowedge was
passed down from vivasvan to manu etc.
