Re: Appeal for helping orphans in India
This is an appeal to all of you who feel for the plight of orphans
in India. It is unfortunate that Indian big buisness and well known people
like Kapil Dev are giving huge amounts of money to all ready well funded
Western organisations like Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity while many
small Hindu organisations are struggling for want of money. I have come across
two such organisations recently:
(1) IMC TRUST (for orphans)- a registered trust under Societies Act of India.

(2) Kishore Bharati Ashram Vidyalaya: A school for poor children served by
dedicated teachers on extremely low wages. The address is: Kishore Bharati

under the WB Societies Act XXVI of 1961)/Attention Sri Mihir Sengupta.
I would also like to appeal to you to help an orphanage run by
Ramakrishna Mission in Rahara, near Calcutta. In the 1970s the Communist
Government of West Bengal tried to take over this orphanage. This forced
Ramakrishna Mission to declare themselves non-Hindu since according to the
constitution non-hindu organizations are immune from Government takeover.
Recently Supreme court has declared that RK Mission is Hindu, thus considerably
complicating their job of running their various schools and orphanages
since all of them (being Hindu institutions) can be taken over by the
government at any time. Thus they have decided to set up permanent funds for
each of their social service institutions so that they do not have to take
any money from the government. I have been asked by Swami Jayananda of
Ramakrishna Mission Boys' Home to publicise their appeal for help to set up
their Permanent Fund. Please send your check to
